Met With Kirrily

My cross culture's lecture, Miss Petra, was set us to met foreigners in order we knew their culture so that we can compared theirs with Indonesia. The foreigner who I met named Kirrily, she was an Australian girl, she came from Canberra, the capital city of Australia. She came to Indonesia to learned Bahasa Indonesia. So, what's the reason that made her chose Indonesian than another languages? Because, she thought that Indonesia was the nearest country with Australia, so it's better to learned it than another languages. Surprisingly, she could spoke Indonesian well enough, she told us that she had learned bahasa since she was in elementary school, because bahasa was one of the lesson there.

Talking about the school management in Australia, it's really made me envy, why? Because, Australians do not need to paid school fee if they were in national schools. But, of course to became a student of national school they need to did a test which is very difficult. Compared Australia school management with us, Indonesia, it's really a pity that Indonesian should pay a high fee to enter the school, especially if it's a favorite school, :(

Schools in Australia was started at 09.00 am until 03.00 pm and in a year they have 3 months holiday as the summer holiday.

Compared the characteristics of Australian people and Indonesia was really different. She said that Australian was more like individualism, besides Indonesian was friendly. If she met with Indonesian, they always gave her a smile or accosted her, different with Australian who didn't care a lot if they met people.

Australia hadn't special dishes or clothes like Indonesia, but they have traditional culture that came from Aborigin, the original ethnic of Australia. She said that the relationship among Australian and Aborigin was not good. Aborigin was isolated from the modernity, they had a high respect to their tribe, so it's difficult to allied Aborigin with the white skin.

Talked about the kangaroo, it really surprised me that some of Australians ate kangaroo. Australia policy also let the kangaroo walking to the street, even in the main street!

At the first time Kirrily entered Indonesia, she had some culture shocks, such as:
1. About the traffic, she thought that Indonesia had dangerous traffic and found out that traffic in Indonesia was full of motor-cycle, so when she walked in the sidewalk she got really careful. She told us that Australia didn't have many public transportation, they just need to rode the bus if they want to go somewhere.
2. The traditional market, she was in a high shock when she saw the meat section in traditional market. She saw the meats were put in anywhere and the room was very smelly. She told us that Australia also had a traditional market, but the meats were put inside the freezer, so the market wasn't smell at all, also the food would stay clean.
3. The price, she said that price in Indonesia was cheap, that's why she bought a lot of batik besides she loves Indonesian batik.
4. Something which is made her really shock was the praised she heard in the morning "adzan Subuh".For some nights, she couldn't sleep in the morning because of the praised, it's really annoyed her. She told me that Australia also had a Mosque but she never heard a praised from it.

We also asked her, what's her most difficult part in learning Indonesian? She answered "the grammar". Wow,her cased was same with us. So, we asked her how to learned the grammar? She answered that she learned it using "Flash Card". Using flash card is really easy, you just write down English vocabulary on one side then write down the Indonesia vocabulary on another side, so both sides were filled with the vocabulary
 of different language.

Least, it's really enjoyable to met with foreigners and talking about their culture which is different with me, I hope I'll get another chances like this later, (>o<)!
